Description:

Amherst Recreation Summer Outreach Assistant

POSITION PURPOSE
Assists the Outreach Director with planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of recreation activities for the community. Work involves planning and leading outdoor events for the general public. Extensive public contact is involved in this work.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives direction and support from the Outreach Director or Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

JOB DUTIES
• Assists with the development, planning, organizing, and coordinating engaging programs for various age groups.
• Assists in creating and maintaining supply inventory for all outreach programs or activities.
• Collaborates with outside agencies and other Town of Amherst departments on outreach events as needed.
• Lead the “Pop Up in the Park” Mobile Recreation program.
• Assist with town-wide special events when needed.
• Assist in the design and updates print and digital promotional documents including flyers and brochures to appeal to target audiences; develops and recommends ideas for projects, campaigns, slogans, catch phrases, and informational content.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated experience working with children in small groups.
• Demonstrated experience to express ideas effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and respectfully with the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, community groups, co-workers, employees, superiors, and the general public.
• Ability to think creatively and plan a variety of engaging activities for the public.
• Ability to demonstrate and play various sports activities.
• Ability to create materials for social media platforms.
• Ability to track and report engagement and attendance.
• Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments.
