Join the Town of Amherst as our Summer Camp Director!  We are looking for a dynamic individual to plan, implement, and supervise our “Fun in the Sun” Day Camp.  This role is perfect for a leader who excels at managing a team and connecting with campers.  If you are organized, energetic, and ready to make a local impact, we would love to meet you.  Help us make this “Fun in the Sun” season the best one yet! 

JOB SUMMARY:
The Summer Camp Coordinator Director is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and supervision of the Town of Amherst's "Fun in the Sun" Summer Day Camp program. This position requires a combination of administrative, supervisory, and hands-on involvement with campers. Occasional weekend and evening availability required. (19 hours/week through May 2026; 37.5 hours/week between June 2026 and August 2026

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 21 years of age or older.  Three (3) or more years of college experience PLUS completion of a camp administration course; OR two (2) years of camp experience AND the completion of some camp administration work; OR equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and strong leadership abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of child development and management
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of staff
  • Basic computer skills or willingness to learn
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours
  • Must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong personal experience in interactive extracurricular activities (arts, sports, clubs)
