The Town of Amherst is seeking Summer Camp Junior Counselors.  If you are an outgoing, enthusiastic team player and enjoy working with children, Amherst Recreation is hiring Summer Day Camp Junior Counselors to work cooperatively and productively with a Team of Counselors to create an exciting, positive, and safe educational camp experience to help steer the “Fun in the Sun” Day Camp. 

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Junior Camp Counselors assist in implementing summer day camp programming. Responsible for creating a positive and safe environment for campers, and assisting in the planning and implementation of interesting and exciting educational and recreational activities. Training will be held on June 25th and June 26th.  Camp will run June 29th – August 14th.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Minimum 4 weeks experience attending a camp
  • Demonstrated experience working with children in small groups
  • Ability to plan activities for and supervise groups of children.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including patience, an outgoing and enthusiastic personality, and a willingness to serve.
  • Must be available to work the entire 8 weeks of summer day camps (5 days a week) and attend a pre-camp training session day prior to the first day of camp. Junior Counselors are also required to work part of the day/evening on July 3rd

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference is given to former participants of a CIT program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must successfully pass the (CORI) history/juvenile record history as well as a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks
