Local Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer - Housing

Inspection Department

The Town of Amherst seeks a Local Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer to perform a variety of routine and complex technical duties in the inspection of buildings to ensure compliance with Massachusetts State Building Code, Sanitary Code, Fire Safety Codes, Amherst Zoning Bylaws, and the Amherst Residential Rental Property Bylaw.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree in a field related to Building Construction or Design with at least 5 years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health with experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.

Certification, or ability to obtain Certification, as a Local Inspector (as defined in Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 143, Sec. 3 and 94 as amended by Chapter 168 of the Acts of 1992); OR Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health with ability and willingness to obtain training in housing inspection.  Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Driver's License.
