Come join the Amherst Recreation Aquatics staff for Spring and Summer 2024! We are looking for pool cashiers to assist with community outreach and front desk staffing. Amherst Recreation Pool Cashiers are responsible for welcoming pool patrons, summer memberships daily admissions and concession sales.

Seasonal Part-time (Non-Benefited) June – August 2024
Hours: 15-20 hours per week – must be willing to work flexible hours including weekend shifts
Pay Scale - Part-time Wage Scale Level 1, Step 9 - $15.00 per hour

Job Summary:
The Pool Cashier is responsible for greeting customers, selling memberships and daily admissions, selling concessions, keeping records and settling daily receipts. Supervision Received: The Pool Cashier works under the supervision of the Pool Manager in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Major Duties:
Ensures that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer.
• Follows established cash handling procedures and policies
• Tracks all concession inventory, attendance records and cash reports
• Secures all equipment and supplies at the end of his/her shift
• Answers phone in a courteous manner
• Participates in all staff development training and staff meetings
• Maintains a clean and organized work station and concession area
• Wears designated staff uniform.
• Reports any incidents, accidents, problems or concerns to the Pool Manager
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Preference will be given to previous employees in good standing with the department. Candidates must be at least 15+ years old. Knowledge of cash handling procedures. Ability to maintain a safe environment at work site. Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Skills necessary to operate a cash register and/or computer tablet. Must pass the (CORI) history/juvenile record history as well as a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge: Basic knowledge of courtesy, respectful interactions to provide proficient customer servicing. Familiarity with electronic equipment to perform cash and credit card transactions and to operate computer or tablet. Knowledge of basic math calculations for adding, subtracting, counting money and currency to maintain accuracy for cash and credit card sales. Knowledge to maintain clean and health work area.

Ability: Communicate effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing, Ability to communicate in more than one language is helpful. Ability to be understood. Ability to communicate respectfully with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to demonstrate comprehension of written and verbal instructions. Ability to deliver effective customer service skills with the general public, customers, and other department employees. Ability to organize and work efficiently. Ability to record details accurately and receive, tally, and report on inventory. Ability to implement basic knowledge of local and state public health laws and regulations for cleanliness of concession. Ability to operate computer and/or tablet, telephone, credit card equipment, cash register, computer software, and other standard office equipment. Ability to count money accurately. Ability to demonstrate patience. Ability to determine when to report issues, concerns or problems to supervision. Ability to work weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Skill: Effective communication skills verbally and in writing. Skill to accurately perform cash handling and maintaining of inventory. Skill to maintain healthy and clean outdoor and indoor areas around and in concession stand. Skill to organize and create accurate reports. Skill to operate computer, or tablet and computer software such as MS Word, and Excel. Skill to operate cash register or other equipment that record sales. Skill to sell merchandise and to generate reports. Competence in customer servicing. Skill to operate telephone and other standard office equipment.

This position is required to stand or sit, talk and hear for extended periods; is frequently required to walk; uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; twists, turns, kneels, and bends; specific vision abilities required include close and medium distance vision, peripheral and color vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; ability to operate a keyboard, calculator, computer, credit card equipment and cash register; occasionally lifts up to or moves more than 20 lbs.

Job Environment:
Work is generally performed in pool area at concession stand in mostly office conditions. Area around office is wet and there is infrequent exposure to various weather conditions, noise levels are moderate to high. Operates computer or tablet, telephone, cash register, and credit card payment equipment. Operates infrequently other office equipment. Makes regular contacts with customers, general public, and supervisor where most contacts involve an information exchange, and selling and marketing merchandise and pool admissions. Has no access to confidential information. Errors in judgement and performance could have minor adverse effect on town’s ability to deliver services and/or result in minor monetary losses.
