Laborer/Truck Driver – Tree & Ground

Department of Public Works

The Town of Amherst seeks a Laborer/Truck Driver to perform skilled work in maintaining parks, commons, athletic fields, walkways, recreational areas, cemeteries and public shade trees for the Town. Operates light and heavy trucks and associated equipment.  Designated essential personnel.

 

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school education or equivalent, AND any equivalent combination of education and experience or specialized training demonstrating ability to perform above duties safely and efficiently.

  • Some knowledge of equipment, methods and procedures used in landscaping and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Massachusetts Driver's license and CDL certification with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain License within one year of hire.
