Recreational Therapist

Job purpose

The Recreational Therapist is assigned to clients ages 7-22 and community members of all ages. Recreational therapy is evidence-based and fits within the trauma-informed framework already utilized by each of our programs. The Recreational Therapists provides treatment interventions incorporating evidence-based activities that address and begin to destigmatize diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit and other common diagnoses, especially those triggered or augmented by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in working with children and utilizing recreational therapy or related models
  • Currently holds a recreational therapy certification or eligibility is preferred 
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.
  • Knowledge of principles, theory, practice, and terminology of therapeutic recreation
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication.  
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated ability and competency in treating clients that range in age from children to young adults who have prior traumatic experiences and mental health issues
  • Skilled in exercising discretion in handling confidential information
  • Support working relationships with persons from varied ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds
  • Skilled in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion, and decision making to achieve objectives
