Description:
The Harold Grinspoon Foundation, located in Agawam, MA, is looking to add a Contracts Associate to a growing team supporting multiple projects, including its flagship program, PJ Library®. This position will be responsible for assisting the Contracts Manager in securing production and distribution rights for books distributed by PJ Library and its sister programs, Sifriyat Pijama and Maktabat al-Fanoos and other projects. This is a full-time position in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial non-profit organization, reporting to the Contracts Manager and Director of Operations.
Duties
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Manage, track, and record rights acquisitions for all programs (PJ Library, PJ Our Way, and PJ Library International programs)
• Research rights holders and negotiate rights fees for varying quantities, terms, territories, languages, and formats
• Draft, review, negotiate, letters of agreement
• Obtain book files, approve payment requests, and follow through with contractual obligations
• Research quotations and sources
• Obtain permission for using quotations, photos, text, and artwork
• Maintain productive relationships with contacts at publishing houses
• Track and archive all permissions and contractual templates and documents
• Work closely with Publishing Relations Manager and content teams from various programs
• Work on various legal projects
Requirements:
Requirements
• 1-2 years’ experience working with contracts
• Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail, and strong follow-through
• Ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects and concurrent communication threads
• Strong negotiating skills, and confidence negotiating contract terms within defined parameters
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, including Excel
• Previous experience in the publishing industry a plus
• Bachelor’s Degree with legal focus a plus
