Description: | The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Program (DSAP) has one position available, serving with the Runaway & Homeless Youth (RHY) Programs, based in Franklin County.
This position is full-time for about 7 months, from January-July 2019.
Agency/Program Mission: DIAL/SELF helps young people become independent by connecting them with housing, employment, education and civic opportunities.
AmeriCorps Member Objective: To support and participate in various RHY program activities including: case coordination services; outreach activities; life skills activities, volunteer opportunities, recreational activities and other opportunities to educate and engage at-risk youth; 2 resource drop-in centers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in weekly outreach activities including reaching out to youth in schools, at community meals and events, on the streets, and at other youth services agencies, and reaching out to other community members at different service agencies and community events.
Respond to Information and Referral phone calls and provide support to youth and their families in the community.
As needed, assist RHY Programs Youth Workers with ongoing case management of youth. Includes holding one- on-one meetings with youth ages 11-25 to discuss goal setting and future planning.
As needed, assist resource drop-in staff in creating weekly recreational and educational opportunities for youth as well as multiple seasonal activities and events, such as the Green Light Project (November), events for National Safe Place week (March), etc.
Plan weekly life skills lessons and activities for all RHY participants.
Support resource drop-in centers for runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 15-21, as needed.
Other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license and access to insured vehicle
Willingness to approach young people in a variety of outreach settings
Ability to be flexible and multi-task
Ability to maintain professional boundaries
Desire to work with young people
Basic computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheet / database, email)
Must be at least 21 years old at the beginning of the term of service
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to walk up to three miles and be able to stand for up to three hours
Benefits:
$9,800 Stipend and $4,266 Education Award. The Education Award can be used to pay for pre-existing student loans or future education costs.

Requirements: | Members must be at least 18 years old and U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or lawful Permanent Residents. Youth work experience is recommended, but not required. Some work history is necessary. Because part of the region is rural, it is highly beneficial to have a driver’s license with access to reliable transportation.
