Are you passionate about youth empowerment, education, the arts and social justice?
Join the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Team!

For ten months, 19 DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members create positive youth development opportunities in schools and local agencies throughout the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. AmeriCorps members use a collaborative, student-centered approach to support young people’s autonomy, belonging and personal learning aspirations. They use arts and experiential learning activities to create spaces where youth can develop meaningful goals, drive their own solutions, make decisions, fail, learn and grow.

The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Program (DSAP) has three core elements:
• On-site youth work at a local school or nonprofit.
• Team service project in collaboration with youth and community.
• Weekly training and reflection to build youth work skills and increase knowledge of different learning styles, social justice issues, arts integration, motivational interviewing, asset-based community development, group dynamics and facilitation.

The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Members serving at Holyoke High School in the Student Support Room (SSR) will:
• Collaborate with SSR coordinator and SSR team to oversee day-to-day operations of the SSR
• Maintain a welcoming, clean, engaging and therapeutic physical space
• Implement social-emotional and Restorative Justice interventions
• Collaborate with school administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, restorative justice staff and others
• Co-design, communicate and implement clear policies and protocols with students
• Develop individual plans with students to address issues that led to their visit to the SSR
• Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and offer ideas/implement improvements
• Form caring relationships and model respectful communication and unconditional positive regard for students
• Teach self-regulation skills and self-care strategies to identified students
• Utilize behavioral management techniques respectfully and appropriately
• Participate in and help to facilitate training and support for school staff
• Identify opportunities for teaching moments-- Interrupting oppressive language and behavior amongst students
• Tend to the physical space; cleaning and organizing of art supplies and academic supplies daily and/or weekly
