Description:
BHMA, a residential and day program serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Residential Services (AD). The AD, under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services, is responsible for the day-to day management and oversight of our residential programs. Duties include: scheduling of staff, fostering life skills development with residents, incorporating assistive technology, provide supervision and direction to staff, and support the recreational and leisure activities of the residents.The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats to families and coworkers, support the individuals we serve in a person-centered way, be flexible to respond to the changing needs of the population as well as the organization.Candidates need to possess a bachelors degree or higher in a human services related field, have experience working in a residential setting and supervising staff. Candidates need to hold current certifications, or willing to be trained, in first aid & CPR, MAP, Human Rights, and Safety Care. Requirements:
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION

· Day to day supervision of all residential programs

· Direct supervision and mentoring of assigned staff

· Responsible for working with RD on ongoing staff development

· Work with the RD to integrate life skills into the residential program

· Work with the RD to create goals and objectives for the residential program

· Participate in the implementation of the life skills curriculum ( i.e. LCE)

· Participate in writing and reviewing residential progress reports as needed

· Act as a mentor and role model for Residential Advisors and Assistants

· Support the BHMA’s recreational programs including active participation in Special Olympics, Boltwood, Best Buddies, and weekend activities

· Support organizational culture and values

· Provide excellent client service to families, students, and funding sources

· Administer medications, when certified to do so

· Support the MAP Supervisor in maintaining compliance with all MAP protocols and procedures

· Coordinate activities with outside organizations such as Boltwood, Best Buddies, Special Olympics

· Develop and oversee the implementation of Assitive Technology throughout the residential programs

· Work with RD and Clinician to implement behavioral support plans

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

· Communicate with all staff via email and Best Notes

· Attend student and staff meetings as requested

· Provide transportation of students as needed

· Participate in residential meetings and lead portions as defined by the RD

· Attend all management level meetings as required by the ED

· Adapt to flexible nature of the position

· Maintain positive work attitude

· Problem solve independently

· Participate in the admissions process

· Participate in the performance evaluations of the residential staff

· Attend mandatory staff trainings

· Provide coverage on shift if no other staff are available to maintain ratio

· Other duties as requested by the RD or ED

Qualifications and Skills

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Knowledge of working with adults with developmental disabilities

· Ability to foster a positive working environment

· Demonstrated skills for facilitating meetings

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Effective supervision skills to promote staff growth

· Availability for a flexible schedule

· Proficiency in computer technology

· Effective judgment, decision-making, and organizational skills

· Certified in or ability to obtain State of Massachusetts Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification, CPR, First Aid, and other certification requirements as mandated by BHMA and its associated agencies

· Training as Human Rights Officer

· Valid driver’s license and insured automobile

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERICENCE REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelors Degree in Human Service or related field

· Experience working within a residential setting

· Experience supervising staff
