The Accessibility Services Specialist is a full-time, year round position, job group and level PT-3 and reports to the Director of Accessibility Services. The Accessibility Services Specialist will implement services for students with disabilities, focusing primarily on students under the mandates of Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, MA State laws and Amherst College policies. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the management of a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of the students with a disability within the framework of the federal regulations, current accepted learning theories, established best practices and available financial resources • Assist in the development, enforcement and regular evaluation of policies and practices to ensure institutional compliance with Amherst College's mission, the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, The American with Disabilities Act (1990), the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and other federal, state and local laws/regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities in collaboration with legal counsel • Facilitate the inquires of prospective students, current students, parents, faculty and staff • Review and interpret diagnostic evaluations, including medical documentation, psychological and neurological psychology reports, Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) and Section 504 Plans • Meet with students individually to assess accommodations, counsel them on specific (student identified) barriers and manage student progress to ensure the ability to learn and live on campus successfully • Provide training and ongoing education and consultation/collaboration opportunities for administrators, faculty and staff designed to increase the awareness and responsiveness of the campus community to the needs of students with disabilities • Maintain appropriate documentation and confidential record systems for those served by the office • Serve as an alternate member of the Care Team Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS Required • Master's degree in the fields of Rehabilitation Counseling/Disability Studies, Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Education, or related field • Four years of professional experience working with persons with designated disabilities and program coordination to include two years working with students • Acumen and experience working with a diverse population • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills • Proficient in MS Office • Attention to detail Preferred • Current Certification of Rehabilitation Counseling • Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of required experience APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Interestedcandidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and the names and contact information (email and/or telephone numbers) for three professional references.
