Become a part of our team of competent and compassionate professionals as a program clinician in the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) at Behavioral Health Network! As a CIT Program Clinician, you will help coordinate and facilitate all of CIT-related trainings for law enforcement and behavioral health providers and develop and update training content as needed. Within the training sessions, CIT Program Clinicians relate subject matter to attendees to increase understanding and practical application and assist in responding to law enforcement questions, comments, and concerns. After training is complete, they collect, process, and document the results of all evaluations received during trainings. Additionally, they assist law enforcement agencies as they collaborate with behavioral health and community providers and provide consultation and information about behavioral health issues to law enforcement. CIT Program Clinicians have the important role of liaison between law enforcement and behavioral health providers, and provide outreach and information about the CIT program model to law enforcement agencies in order to connect new agencies to CIT programming. In addition, CIT Program Clinicians exhibit sound client engagement and de-escalation skills and follow the Recovery Oriented model through the use of multi modal therapies during interventions. They establish rapport with persons served and their family members and service providers, attend seminars and trainings to further develop their knowledge base, and seek supervisors and staff for training and development. BHN’s Crisis Intervention Team Training and Technical Assistance Center (CIT-TTAC) provides training for police officers in Western MA to reach crisis resolution and improve de-escalation skills when responding to persons experiencing emotional disturbances. We realize that police are often called upon to respond to situations in which mental illness and/or substance abuse play a huge part. Officers complete our formal, 40-hour training covering topics including, but not limited to: mental illness, substance abuse, the mental health system and available local resources, crisis resolution and de-escalation techniques, suicide, trauma, site visits of behavioral health treatment facilities, and perspectives from family and individuals regarding living with mental health issues. All officers that complete the training are certified as CIT trained officers, receive their certificates of completion, and are recognized as CIT trained officers by the state. Through the CIT training and ongoing partnership, we can teach skills to assist officers when responding to individuals and families dealing with these issues and also provide the tools and resources to get them the help they may need. Departments currently involved include: Amherst, Chicopee, East Longmeadow, Fitchburg, Greenfield, Holyoke, Northampton, South Hadley, Springfield, Ware, West Springfield, and Westfield, MA. Requirements: Program Clinicians in the CIT-TTAC program at Behavioral Health Network have the following qualities: • Knowledge and application of the Recovery Oriented model, specific to those experiencing a mental health crisis. • Strong organizational and networking skills. • Knowledge of de-escalation skills and able to effectively teach and utilize. • Strong motivational interviewing skills. • Able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and follow through on individual tasks. • Familiarity with internet, word processing and email systems. • Empathic skills. • Good observation, thorough documentation skills, ability to provide solution-focused, strengths-based treatment. • Experience collaborating with law enforcement (preferred). • Knowledge of CIT program model (preferred). • Experience in training development, coordination and facilitation (preferred). • Clinical Masters Degree (required). • Licensed or license eligible (required).
