Join the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Team! DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members create positive youth development opportunities in schools and local agencies throughout the Pioneer Valley of Western MA. AmeriCorps members use a creative, collaborative, student-centered approach to support young people’s autonomy, belonging and personal learning aspirations. Members gain practical experience and build leadership skills that transfer across careers and vocations, particularly those related to education, youth work, arts, social justice, nonprofits and community work. The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps program has three core elements: * On-site youth work at a local school or nonprofit * Team service project in collaboration with youth and community * Weekly training and reflection to build youth work skills and increase knowledge Member Objective: * To help students develop new skills, talents and new interests. * To support students in building positive relationships with peers and adults. * To encourage students to fully immerse in project-based cross-curricular learning opportunities. * To promote students’ self esteem, self-confidence and a positive self-image. Duties and Responsibilities: * Assist in recruiting and orienting qualified staff, including activity leaders and volunteers. * Assist in facilitating ongoing communication amongst staff, team building opportunities, and regular staff meetings to reflect on program operation and quality. * Assist in effective use of the after school on-site observation tool (a research based rubric called the APT) which includes oral and/or written feedback for line staff around program quality. * Assist in implementing a program which offers students balanced enrichment offerings to engage in (arts, health and nutrition, STEAM, literacy, etc). * Assist in activating advisory councils that include parents, youth, school personnel, and community representation that set policy and provide advice about future directions. * Work with students directly as an assistant to the lead teacher. * Maintain records and files in designated fashion. * Submit required student data within defined time lines. * May attend Site coordinator meetings. * Maintain inventory of materials and equipment, and participate in ordering when necessary. * Attend all relevant CES after school trainings and planning meetings. * Other duties as assigned.
