Description:
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for a payroll manager.

Under the direction of the assistant controller, the payroll manager leads the preparation, processing, maintenance, and reconciliation of the College payroll function and servicing. Duties include payroll operations and compliance, quarterly and annual state and federal tax filings according to scheduled deadlines, preparing, processing, insuring accuracy, and timely distribution of W-2 forms, and assisting with the preparation for annual audits, 1042-S reports and ACA reporting requirement. The manager will also be expected to manage, update and upgrade the payroll internet site and webpages. The payroll manager serves as the primary liaison and interface with employees, students, and vendors on payroll matters. They will recommend policies and procedures (in coordination with other College departments, as appropriate) to achieve continual improvement, efficiency, and effectiveness of assigned functions and services. This position provides supervision, mentoring, training, and development for the payroll coordinator.

A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of payroll processing education or related experience is required. The ideal candidate should be computer proficient (Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based software), have excellent verbal and written communication, customer service and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple priorities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. This position will be required to maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws for payroll, retirement, and benefits administration . The successful candidate should be able to prepare project plans with steps and timelines to ensure projects are seen to completion within set timeframe; track daily tasks and delegate when appropriate to payroll coordinator; and ensure deadlines are met or completed ahead of commitments. Candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Previous supervisory experience is required. A commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
