Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the newly created position of education abroad assistant. The college has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst's students are Pell Grant recipients; 45 percent of our studentsidentify as domestic students of color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

Each year approximately 45 percent of the junior class spends a semester or year away on a study abroad or domestic program. A number of students also pursue summer opportunities, including internships, research, or language study. The Study Abroad Office promotes these opportunities through events and workshops, often in partnership with student organizations and resource centers, as well as advertising campaigns and social media. The office hosts a number of visitors to campus, including representatives based in the U.S. and abroad, and works collaboratively with offices and departments across campus to support and promote all college-sponsored travel.

The education abroad assistant processes student records and applications and provides administrative support to the director and assistant director. The assistant assists in managing applications, event planning and publicity, and scheduling appointments and manages application processes for summer study abroad fellowships and exchange programs. The assistant will use reporting tools and software and communicates with relevant offices to manage student records. It is expected that the assistant will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the college's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
